5 SEO Mistakes Which Should Be Avoided
Posted on August 21st, 2008 by Rishabh Sood under Blogging, Link Building, SEO Tricks/TipsHello guys,
Today I’m gonna share with you 5 SEO Mistakes Which Should Be Avoided. i hope you make use of my tips
Mistake #1 - Niche
Don’t ever try to find high paying niche! People tend to make blogs on those topics for which they can earn more but what happens at last? They loose interest n blogging and just copy and paste content from other blogs, which we all know that search engines does not like copied content and you get nothing from copied content because you don’t get high SERP therefore no traffic! Make blog on a topic which you have knowledge about and also interest. You can earn much more if you follow this tip
Mistake #2 – No Descriptions and Titles on all webpages
This is the mistake I see in many websites while reviewing them. If you use a custom template for you website do remember to put Description and Title tag in all the webpages. This way you can get more traffuc as people while searching on search engines first check out the description of your webpage.
Mistake #3 – Using flash on the website
Search engines can’t index flash websites, so its always preferred that you choose a HTML template for your website or if you really want to use Flash templates make sure you provide a HTML version of the same template.
Mistake #4 – Not Linking to relevant websites
People generally don’t link to relevant webistes. Its recommended that you have backlinks from the website which have same niche as yours. This can help you increasing your SERP!
Mistake #5 – Building too many backlinks
If you are starting your website make sure you don’t start making backlinks very quickly. This will not improve your SERP but decrease it.
Thats all for today on Topic 5 SEO Mistakes Which Should Be Avoided

Very good and practical tips. Rishabh I found a couple of spelling and grammatical mistakes in the post. I hope you will rectify them
I completely agree with you on ‘niche’ and ‘no title / description’. I prefer giving a unique title to individual pages and a relevant description also helps because many times SEs show the meta description in search results.
I agree that an HTML version should be available for flash sites, but some SEs (atleast google) indexes the text in flash websites and off-site SEO can improve rank for flash websites too.

Thanks for your tips. Any good SEO work should follow a check list (I do mine mentally) to ensure best results. Folks new to the game should get familiar and comfortable with looking at webpage code. It’s a bit overwhelming at first for people without a programming background, but it’s actually very easy. All you need to do is recognize the common tags — things that are important for SEO like the : title, meta, alt, header, etc.
This method helps the web developer see the page as a spider would, and lessens their focus on just the visible output of the page.

Thanks for the points. But don’t you think even the sites not related would be counted as back links and help you in link building?

They will but not that much..

I believe SEO is a distant 3rd when it comes to gathering an internet audience. I’m not saying it isn’t important but you could throw your SEO checklist in the garbage as long as you have basic meta data and clean code. Link building is obviously number one as we are aware that the big engine ranks you by who and how many sites love you. The power of relevant links is astonishing and will deliver long term results (may require pruning). Second to that would be “Quality” content that delivers a unique message to your users. Of course both of these factors both have something in common. They both offer value to your visitors, care also must be taken with structural layout and content should be topically divided up like a newspaper. Newspapers start with a main heading () and break down the topic of a page with subheadings. This allows users to quickly identify which part of an article they are interested in reading. Nothing is worse than coming to a webpage and all you see is a massive block of text. Close browser. The Engines are trying to be people and soon all the little SEO tricks and tweaks won’t help you, only usability and real mental labour.

I think that flash can be removed as a mistake, both google and adobe are making flash more available to the search engines.

Slo Botox,
After reading your insightful comment, I have to agree. SEO was much easier years ago, and it is likely to become increasingly difficult as Google matures. Right now, onsite SEO is mainly about tricks, and this is only a weak short-term solution if you primarily rely on it. Even link building is a short term fix, but certainly exponentially more important than onsite SEO. If you are making money online as a career, you need to offer original, high quality content. It’s the only insurance that you will sustain your earnings in this very youthful and quick changing industry. Don’t let an algo update sink your ship!

I tried to link one of my wordpress blogs from blogger on every page and it happened that my PR 2 blogger blog dropped to PR 0. I removed it and hope to see the PR coming back. I think we cannot link every page to the same URL. What is your suggestion?
September 8th, 2008 at 8:28 am
You bought or sold any link?
September 9th, 2008 at 6:41 am
I did not buy or sell any link. I just link my wordpress blog url to blogger just to gain backlink.
September 14th, 2008 at 12:45 am
I made 10-20 backlink a day is that ok for pagerank??
September 14th, 2008 at 12:47 am
Yes, Its okay but make sure you comment on do-follow blogs.

Building too many links is not an SERP issue unless you are doing it wrong. If you are building back links using the exact same anchor text over and over and over again it will appear to be “unnatural” but if you are building links using different anchor text it will make your links appear to be natural links and Google and other search engines will appreciate this.

Another important factor to consider for seo is to use h1 h2 h3 tags wherever necessary, and mistake becomes stuffing site with these tags thought there is no need.
