10 Ways to improve your website
Posted on October 7th, 2008 by Rishabh Sood under BloggingHello guys,
Today I am gonna tell you 10 Ways to improve your website
I just got an email from one of my friend asking me to give him some tips so I am writing this article here
Lets start
1.) Extend registration of your domain to atleast 5 years so that SE’s don’t think you just setup’d the site to spam around.
2.) Keep your font BIG, If you think the font on your font is very small and colour is giving pain to readers eyes Change it.
3.) Add Alternative text to all images you have on your website.
4.) If you are using iframes on your blog remove them.
5.) Create a sitemap for your website and submit it to Google Webmaster Tools.
6.) Don’t make your website in Flash, If you want to make it in Flash then include a HTML version of your website too.
7.) Make sure logo on top of your website redirects to your Home Page.
8.) Create a favicon for your website.
9.) Create an About Us Page and put it on every page of your website.
10.) Fix all links on your website (External and Internal)
Thats all I have right now on 10 Ways to improve your website
Thanks,
Rishabh Sood

Hi Rishabh,
You are certainly right when it comes to eye strain. One thing I never understand is why people do the whole black background with white text. Sure, it may look fancy but it is so hard on the eyes, particularly late at night.
Have you ever noticed that reading normal text afterwards is still a strain as a result?

“Extend registration of your domain to atleast 5 years so that SE’s don’t think you just setup’d the site to spam around.”
Does this honestly make a difference? I have never heard this before, but thank you for sharing. I always set mine up for just a year incase the site fails but I think I will make them longer in future.
Thanks for the help.

Great list! Anyway, I guess you have missed out 1 thing. which is to get a quality hosting. As hosting is the foundation of all websites. Even all the on page factors mentioned above are done well but without a strong base to hold it, it will still sink.

Not sure about the domain expiry date. I guess, it is just a rumour that spreaded out sometime ago, backed by certain search engine submission sites/tools…

On 5th, you should extend to yahoo webmaster tool and microsoft’s bing webmaster tool also. sine those 2 also provides good information about their search terms.
